When you lose a loved one it is a very difficult time. At Tranquillity Funerals our aim is to help ease the process of orgainising their funeral.

There are may questions that we are regularly asked by our clients from "What do I do when I have a loss?" to "how do I write a eulogy?".

What do I do when I have a loss?

At Home

  • Call a doctor.
  • Then call us on 02 6555 3500 or 0418 241 233
  • We will arrange for an appropriate time to transfer your loved one into our care, and arrange for a convenient time to assist with further funeral details.

At a Nursing Home

  • When your loved one entered into the home, they are usually required to give the name of the funeral director who is to take care of the arrangements.  The nursing staff will then contact us.
  • If no funeral director has been identified, please ask them to call us on 02 6555 3500  or 0418 241 233.
  • We will arrange for an appropriate time to transfer your loved one into our care, and arrange for a convenient time to assist with further funeral details.

Private or Public Hospital

  • Call us on 02 6555 3500 or 0418 241 233 .We will arrange for an appropriate time to transfer your loved one into our care, and arrange for a convenient time to assist with further funeral details.

Suddenly or in an Accident

If a loved one dies accidentally or suddenly, the police and emergency services will be the first people contacted. Normally, a coroner is responsible to officially determine the cause of death. In the meantime, determine if a pre-paid or pre-arranged funeral was planned.
If so, contact the funeral director holding the planned documents, and they will support you in processing the wishes of your loved one.
If not, then you may contact us, and we will determine an appropriate time to arrange the funeral. Once the coroner has completed their report, your loved one will be transferred into our care.

What needs to be arranged on my behalf?

We would like to assist in any way that makes it easier for you.  There are some entities that we are required to communicate with, and others that may be easier for us to deal with than yourself.  If there is anyone that you would prefer to contact, then simply let us know.

Here is a list that suggests some possible post-funeral notifications which may help remind you of some people or organisations that you may need to inform:

How do I write a eulogy?

The aim of the eulogy is to remember your loved one in an appropriate manner, befitting both them and yourself.  Here are some guidelines to assist you in writing a eulogy.  Not all of these may be relevant, but they are examples of things to consider.

  • When and where was the deceased born
  • Nicknames, or names known to others
  • Parent’s names
  • Brothers and sisters
  • Early childhood
  • Localities and interests
  • Schools attended, awards gained
  • Academic or trade qualifications and achievements
  • Some interesting items or stories about childhood days
  • Details of any war or military service
  • Details of marriage, divorce, children, significant relationships
  • Club memberships or positions held
  • Sporting or community achievements
  • Hobbies, interests, travel, crafts etc
  • Preferences, likes, dislikes
  • Activities – music, theatre etc
  • Special stories, sayings, qualities that are significant to others
  • Special readings, music or poetry may be included

Is there any cost assistance?

Centrelink does offer a variety of payments to assist with funeral expenses.  A guideline is listed below:
Married Pensioners – the surviving partner may receive a lump sum bereavement payment of up to seven payments when the pension is adjusted to a single entitlement.
Carer’s Pension – The carer may be entitled to a bereavement payment of up to seven pay periods.
Sole Parent Pension – The parent may be entitled to a bereavement payment of up to seven pay periods, for the loss of a child.
